Composition and release form

The vaccine is made from red blood cells from SPF dogs infected with the parasite Babesia canis (strain BC15-19) and treated with gamma rays. The solvent consists of saponin with the addition of water for injection up to 1 ml. In appearance, the vaccine is a dry, homogeneous mass of dark pink color; diluent - a clear, colorless liquid. The vaccine is packaged in 1 dose (1 cm3) in glass vials, sealed with rubber stoppers reinforced with aluminum caps; and 1 ml solvent in vials or syringes. Vials with the vaccine and syringes with solvent are packaged in boxes of 1 or 10 doses. Each box contains instructions for using the vaccine in Russian. The Eurikan Piro vaccine is available without a veterinarian's prescription.

Pharmacological properties

Eurikan Piro belongs to the immunobiological preparations. The vaccine causes the formation of an immune response in dogs to the causative agent of babesiosis (pyroplasmosis) 14 days after repeated administration, lasting at least 12 months. A single dose vial of the vaccine contains a lyophilisate of an inactivated culture of Babesia canis to obtain an antibody titer of at least 2.2 loglO in vaccinated dogs. The vaccine does not have medicinal properties; when used in recommended doses, it does not cause an increase in body temperature or changes in morphological blood parameters.

Indications

The Eurikan Piro vaccine is intended for the prevention of babesiosis (piroplasmosis) in dogs. The vaccine ensures the development of immunity in dogs to piroplasmosis pathogens after 14 days and lasts for 6 months. Dogs are subject to vaccination from 5 months of age. Only dewormed and clinically healthy animals are vaccinated.

Doses and method of administration

Dogs must be dewormed 10 days before vaccination. Before use, the solvent is injected into the vial with the vaccine and, without removing the needle, mixed until a homogeneous suspension is formed. The vaccine prepared in this way is used immediately. The vaccine is administered twice with an interval of 3-4 weeks, subcutaneously in the withers area, in a dose of 1 ml, regardless of the weight and breed of dogs. Dogs are revaccinated every 6 months or annually with a single dose of 1 ml of vaccine. There are no symptoms of canine babesiosis or other pathological signs associated with an overdose of the vaccine. Features of the post-vaccination reaction during primary and repeated immunizations have not been established. Violations of the vaccination schedule should be avoided, as this may lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of immunoprophylaxis for canine babesiosis. If the next dose is missed, immunization should be carried out as soon as possible.

Side effects

When using the vaccine in accordance with these instructions, there are usually no side effects or complications. In some animals, body temperature may rise briefly and a slight swelling may form at the injection site, which disappears spontaneously. In exceptional cases, an anaphylactic reaction is possible. In this case, symptomatic treatment is carried out.

Contraindications

The simultaneous use of Eurican Piro with other vaccines is not allowed, with the exception of vaccines against rabies and leptospirosis, provided they are administered in different places. Eurikan Piro is prohibited from use during pregnancy. The lactation period is not a contraindication to the use of the vaccine.

Release form and composition

The development of the Eurican vaccine originally belonged to the French (“Merial”). In 2021, it became part of the German pharmacological organization Boehringer Ingelheim. Today this serum is a joint brand of two companies.

Eurikan for dogs is produced in 5 modifications. Each of them comes in 2 components: dry and liquid. Both parts are packaged in separate bottles containing 1 immunizing dose (1 ml). They are mixed before use.

Eurikan DHPPi2-L

Eurican DHPPi2-L is a polyvalent (complex) vaccine consisting of 2 components:

  1. Dry is made from culture fluids of cell cultures infected with attenuated strains:
      carnivore plague;
  2. adenovirus CAV 2;
  3. parvovirus;
  4. canine parainfluenza virus-2.
  5. The liquid component contains leptospira from the Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae and Leptospira canicola serogroups, inactivated by thiomersal.

The average cost of DHPPi2 is 400 rubles.

Eurican DHPPi2-LR

Eurican DHPPi2-LR is similar to the previous serum. Its dry component is identical to DHPPi2-L, and its liquid component, in addition to inactivated leptospira, contains glycoproteins of the rabies virus.

The price for DHPPi2-LR is a little more expensive - 550 rubles.

Eurikan Primo

Primo is a monovalent vaccine for puppies. Consists of the culture fluid of a continuous cell line CrFK infected with canine parvovirus (CAG pieces).

On average it sells for 350 rubles.

Eurican Piro

Eurican Piro is also a monovalent serum. The dry component contains red blood cells from SPF dogs infected with Babesia canis (strain “BC15-19”) and treated with gamma rays. The kit includes a solvent consisting of saponin and water for injection.

This is the most expensive vaccine. Average cost - 2,600 rubles.

Eurikan Herpes

Herpes is another monovalent serum. The dry component is made from a cultural suspension of a line of dog kidney cells infected with the herpes virus (strain “F205”), inactivated by ethyleneimine. Solvent - sodium chloride, disodium phosphate dihydrate and water for injection.

Eurican Herpes is the only serum against canine herpesvirus infection registered in the Russian Federation.

The average price in veterinary pharmacies is 2,300 rubles.

Please note that the cost of each vaccine is indicated directly for the drug itself. You will have to pay separately for veterinarian services, filling out a veterinary passport, and the clinic may also charge extra for the serum. The final price for the injection will be 500-1,000 rubles higher.

Instructions for use and dosage for dogs

A single dose is always 1 ml.

The weight of the animal does not affect the dosage calculation. The age suitable for the first vaccination depends on the type of drug:

  • “LR” – 3 months;
  • “L” (no rabies) – 7 weeks.

Eurikan is used according to the following scheme:

  • Twice . Revaccination is carried out after 3-5 weeks. Subsequently, re-vaccination is repeated annually. Rabies vaccination (“LR”) is carried out no more than once a year, therefore it is carried out once.
  • Separated from other vaccines . So, for example, when introducing the “L” modification of eurican, rabies vaccination is permitted only with revaccination of the “LR” type. Vaccines from other manufacturers do not require parallel use.
  • After deworming . This is done no later than 10 days before vaccination. Otherwise, the body fighting helminths will not be able to produce the necessary antibodies.
  • The drug is approved for use by pregnant dogs, but only in the first third of pregnancy.

    The weight of the animal does not affect the dosage calculation

    When administering the vaccine yourself, you must follow the instructions:

  • Prepare the necessary tools and materials by treating them with alcohol.
  • Shake the bottle with the liquid component to remove sediment and form a uniform consistency.
  • Puncture the stopper of the bottle with a syringe needle and draw out the contents.
  • Introduce the collected solution into the bottle with the dry component and, removing the syringe, shake thoroughly until a homogeneous solution is obtained. Do not remove the rubber stopper before mixing, but carefully insert the needle directly into it.
  • Fill the syringe with the resulting solution. The vaccine does not require subsequent storage and is used immediately after preparation.
  • Treat the injection area with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol.
  • Inject the vaccine under the skin of the scapular area or inside the thigh muscle.
  • Do not use the same tools for different animals. If you miss a scheduled revaccination, it is recommended to vaccinate your animal as soon as possible. Otherwise, protective immunity will decrease.
