Multikan 4: instructions for use of the vaccine for dogs and puppies, dosage and indications for use

Multikan-4

An effective method of combating various viruses is vaccination. This applies to both people and animals. In today’s article I would like to discuss in more detail the vaccination of dogs with the Multikan-4 vaccine.

This is a drug that is designed specifically for the specific prevention of plague. In addition, the complex demonstrates high effectiveness in the treatment of adenoviral infections. Laboratory and clinical studies have shown that Multikan-4 is effective as a complex therapy for parvovirus and coronavirus enteritis in dogs. To produce the vaccine, live but weakened strains of canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus type 2, parvovirus and canine coronavirus are used.

Externally , Multikan resembles a yellowish mass with a pink tint, which has a dry structure. Another component of the vaccine is water for infections, which serves as a solvent for the dry composition. The product is used to immunize puppies and adult dogs that show no signs of illness in order to obtain stable immunity and increase the body's defenses. The shelf life of the vaccine is one and a half years. The production date is indicated on the packaging. It is prohibited to use the complex after the expiration date. As for storage conditions, like any medication, Multikan-4 should be stored at a temperature from 2°C to 8°C, avoid direct sunlight.

Composition and release form

"Multican-4" refers to effective preventive and non-hazardous drugs for the treatment of diseases caused by paramyxoviruses, adenoviruses (type II), parvoviruses and coronaviruses.

The form of the medicinal product is represented by two components:

  • dry - softly dried (lyophilized) bacteria (1.0 ml) in the form of a yellow mass with a high level of solubility;
  • liquid - sterile distilled water for injection (2.0 ml).

Directions for use and dosage

The preliminary step is to prepare the mixture for injection, for which the dry component must be dissolved in the supplied bottle. Water for injection should be heated to a temperature of +36. +38 °C.

To thoroughly mix the components, the bottle must be shaken several times. You also need to prepare sterile items for injection (gloves, syringe) in advance.

  • subcutaneously into the shoulder area;
  • intramuscularly into the inner femoral region.

It is possible to vaccinate only healthy animals without any manifestations of the disease.

According to the instructions for use attached to the drug "Multikan-4", the first vaccination for puppies is carried out when they reach 8-10 weeks with repeated revaccination at 10-12 months. For adults, vaccination is recommended once a year.

Precautions and special instructions

When using a vaccine, taking into account the specifics of this drug, you must adhere to some rules:

  • To carry out the event, protective equipment must be used: mask, gown, gloves;
  • Sterile needles or syringes are used during the event;
  • It is not recommended to mix the vaccine with other medications in the same syringe/container;
  • It is recommended to use the solution in the first 15 minutes after preparing the mixture; during mass events, this period cannot exceed 2 hours;
  • It is not recommended to use if there are impurities, damage or deformation of the bottle;
  • An unusable mixture must be rendered harmless by boiling for 30 minutes before disposal;
  • failures in vaccination and revaccination plans lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the drug;
  • Animals cannot be vaccinated in the first week after prophylaxis against helminths and in the first two weeks after treatment with chlorine- and fluorine-containing preparations;
  • if the solution gets on the skin, the surface must be washed with plenty of running water;
  • if it is mistakenly administered to a person, the site of administration must be treated with ethyl alcohol and urgently go to the hospital;
  • In case of an accidental spill, the contaminated surface must be treated with a 5% chloramine solution.

Contraindications and side effects

The use of Multikan-4 is contraindicated:

  • weakened and sick animals;
  • pregnant dogs in late gestation;
  • dog in the first 30 days after birth.

No side effects or complications were identified during vaccination with Multikan-4.

Dogs with hypersensitivity to medications may experience a mild and allergic reaction, the symptoms of which disappear when taking any antihistamines (relieving allergy symptoms).

Application of Multikan-4

In practice, stable immunity to the infectious diseases stated above is formed after vaccination in the third or fourth week. The duration of the immune response is up to 8 months in young dogs and up to a year and a half in adult dogs. It turned out that the complex cannot boast of exceptional healing properties. The vaccine is safe and can be used for prevention. It is important to note that the vaccine does not contain components that cause side effects such as fever or allergic reactions.

Shelf life and storage conditions

A vaccine is a drug that requires special storage conditions. Multikan-4 must be stored in a dark and cool place at a temperature range from +2 °C to +8 °C.

The expiration date is indicated on the packaging and is 12 months from the date of issue.

And in order not to think about the question of where and how to inject Multikan-4 into a dog, and to prevent accidental mistakes during the procedure, we recommend that vaccination be carried out in a veterinary clinic.

Multikan vaccine price

It's no secret that all imported vaccines are much more expensive than our drugs. This one is no exception. Its price in the Russian Federation ranges from 200 to 220 rubles. And this takes into account the fact that foreign analogs are more likely to cause allergies and side effects.

The drug is dispensed without a prescription. However, it is necessary to comply with storage standards (if necessary), as well as transportation. If you purchased it in the summer, at the height of the heat, it should be transported in an ice bag and then kept in the refrigerator until use.

Composition of the vaccine and release form of the drug Multikan 4

Multikan-4 is a domestic drug intended for vaccination of dogs. It looks like a dry porous mass, easily soluble in distilled water, and has a yellow-beige tint.

After dissolution, it acquires a bright pink color. Consists of strains of plague virus, adenovirus, coronavirus and parvovirus.

It goes on sale in small glass bottles, closed with a rubber stopper and an aluminum cap (one dose - 2 bottles of 1 ml of dry substance and 2 ml of solvent).

Medicine for dogs: instructions

All properties of this immune defense product are indicated in the attached instructions for use.

Available in cardboard packages containing five doses. Each of them consists of two ampoules: one contains a “dry” component - a lyophilized yellowish substance, the other contains a suspension or liquid content (may have a pinkish tint or be colorless). When mixed, a ready-to-use vaccine is obtained; it must be used immediately.

Attention! The components of the vaccine are mixed immediately before administration to the animal; storage of the diluted solution (even under freezing conditions) is not allowed!

Form of the drug: bottles with lyophilisate (active ingredient) and liquid.
A bottle containing 1 ml of dry substance and a bottle with 2 ml of liquid are equal to one dose of medicine. The active substance is attenuated viral cultures.

Compound. Often on the packaging you can see the nomenclature: Multikan - 1, Multikan - 2, and then - 4, 7, 8. The numbers indicate the presence of weakened (attenuated) viruses in certain strains. The higher the number, the greater the number of them contained. The vaccine with the highest number - 8 - is distinguished by the fact that it contains, along with six components, an inactivated rabies virus.

The following are infectious diseases for which an immune response is produced as a result of the administration of the following types of drug:

  • 1 – against plague;
  • 2 – from parvovirus enteritis and adenovirus infection;
  • 4 – protects against enteritis caused by coronavirus, parvovirus, as well as against plague and adenovirus;
  • 6 – includes protection against the same diseases as 4, plus immunization against leptospirosis;
  • 7 – contains the same components as 4 and vaccination against dermatophytosis;
  • 8 – the vaccine contains components Multikan-6 and against rabies.

In practice, veterinarians most often use Multikan - 4 and 8.

Properties

The vaccine is administered to increase the dog's body's resistance to these specific infections. It consists mainly of live cultures (the exception is its component used against rabies in the Multikan - 8 variant: it contains “killed” viruses).

In this state, microorganisms are not able to reproduce, but when a vaccine is administered, the animal’s body perceives them as “foreign agents” and actively begins to produce antibodies in response. In other words, after 14 - 21 days, immunity is developed, providing protection for a year or more. In puppies, protection lasts a little less: this period is about 6 – 8 months.

Indications for use

The medicine is injected into puppies and adult dogs according to the vaccination schedule for immunity against a number of dangerous infections, including adenovirus infection, leptospirosis, distemper and others.

Note. Vaccination should be carried out under the supervision of specialists, preferably in veterinary clinics. A week after vaccination, it is recommended to show your pet to a veterinarian.

Directions for use and doses

Vaccinations are given subject to preliminary deworming two weeks in advance, as well as after flea treatment. Manipulations are carried out with sterility, otherwise complications may arise in the form of suppuration, abscesses, etc. Before vaccination, it is recommended to administer an antiallergic drug.

The liquid for preparing the solution should be heated to a temperature of 36 degrees. This is necessary for better absorption of the substance, as well as to avoid the appearance of post-injection “bumps”.

Instructions for use and dosage calculation

Puppies begin to be vaccinated at 8-10 weeks of age. Re-introduce after 21-28 days. The vaccine is administered to young animals for the third time at 11-12 months, and then revaccination is carried out annually.

The rules for the procedure are as follows:

  1. 7-10 days before vaccination, the pet is given anti-helminth medications (Drontal, Prazitel, Kanikvantel, etc.).
  2. 2 ml of solvent is drawn into the syringe, then it is injected into the bottle with the dry substance.
  3. The ampoule is gently shaken until the drug is completely dissolved.
  4. The vial with the liquid vaccine is warmed in your hands for a minute.
  5. The medicine is drawn into a syringe and injected into the dog subcutaneously (in the neck or withers) or into a muscle.

Instructions

If the mother has a healthy immune system, the puppy will likely receive antibodies in the mother's milk while nursing. But subsequently, pets must receive a series of vaccinations starting at eight to ten weeks. Your veterinarian should administer a minimum of three vaccinations, spaced three to four weeks apart. The final dose should be administered at 11–14 weeks of age. Repeated vaccination should be carried out at twelve months, and then annually immunized with Multican. For small dogs the dose is 1 ml, and for medium and large dogs – 2 ml. In principle, there is no one suitable regimen for each puppy and the choice must be determined individually with a veterinarian.

Before use, the drug is diluted in 2 ml of liquid and brought to a temperature of 36-38 degrees, and shake well before use. Vaccination must be carried out in accordance with all aseptic standards; only disposable syringes are used for injection.

You should not violate the vaccination schedule, because this will inevitably lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the vaccine. If an unexpected break occurs, the injection must be given as soon as possible.

Depending on the type of pathogen and the drug, the natural defenses of four-legged pets after vaccination can last from several months to many years. Most immunization drugs, which include Multikan 4, provide a significant degree of protection for twenty-four months; after this period, animals must be revaccinated.

Side effects and contraindications

It is strictly contraindicated to administer the vaccine to animals that have clinical signs of plague, enteritis or adenovirus. You should also not vaccinate dogs that have recently suffered a serious illness.

When administered to healthy animals, no side effects are observed. A small painless swelling may appear at the injection site, which will resolve within 1-2 hours.

In rare cases, an individual allergic reaction may occur; in this case, the pet should be given an antihistamine (suprastin, diphenhydramine, etc.).

To monitor the condition of the animal and the vaccination period, special stickers are included with the vaccine.
